Class Details

At Mid Sussex Dog Training School our aim is to give handlers exercises and ideas that they can put into practice in every day situations, encouraging responsible dog ownership.

We train on Monday evenings in the village hall in Ardingly (please see below for map) starting at 7pm with our Learners/Puppy class followed by Improvers at 8pm and Advancers at 9pm.

'Homework' practice sheets are provided for you to take away, just to remind you what you have learnt and what to practice.   Clicker Training is also available, please ask for details.

We are also able to offer the chance to participate in the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme which is open to all dogs regardless of age or breed with four levels of achievement;  Puppy Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.

NOTE: The use of Check/Choke chains is NOT permitted at our classes.

Bringing Children and Spectators to Class
We encourage spectators i.e. husbands, wives, partners to come to class so that all members of the family can be involved in their dog’s education. We particularly encourage children and young people to come to class. After all, they are the dog owners of the future and it is important that they learn about responsible dog ownership at an early age. However it must be stressed that these classes are designed for adults and some children may struggle in this environment.

Due to safety reasons we can only accept children 10 years of age or older.  In addition, all young people under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We ask that all spectators, including children and young people, sit quietly in the chairs provided at one side of the hall where they can see and hear all that is going on. That way they will not be a distraction to the dog or the person handling the dog.  It must be stressed that children should be old enough to cope with the environment i.e. that they are able to sit quietly with spectators in order to watch and listen to what is going on. Remember that some children find it hard to sit quietly for a whole hour!  Alternatively, if they are going to handle the puppy or dog, they must be capable of doing so.

It cannot be stressed strongly enough that the classes are for your dog. This is their time and all the attention should be solely given to them and their needs. Whoever is handling the dog must be able to provide this.

We want the classes to be enjoyable for all the family so do please contact Madeleine if you have any queries at all.
