Mid Sussex Dog Training School

Fun, reward based, dog training!

Welcome to the website of the Mid Sussex Dog Training School,  thank you for your interest in our puppy and dog training classes.

COVID-19 Update

We apologise most sincerely for the ongoing uncertainty regarding our puppy/dog training classes.  We have recently been given the guidance/legislation provided by the premises’ committee and the Government and after careful consideration we have regrettably come to the conclusion that we are unable to run classes safely regarding Covid-19.

Sadly, we have neither the time nor the manpower to fulfill all that is required under the Law.  As things stand we cannot see this situation changing until a significant breakthrough in the fight against the virus has been achieved.

We had hoped to be able to start classes again in October, but It is with regret and great sadness that we have come to this decision as at the present time we can see no way forward. We would like to thank all our clients both human and canine who we have greatly enjoyed teaching during the last 20 plus years and hope we can get together again soon.

In the meantime we are planning to set up some outside training for RETRIEVERS ONLY.  This would start with basic obedience but then progress to gundog training for those interested.  If you have a retriever and would like to know if these sessions can be arranged please let us know:

Best wishes to everyone and stay safe.

In 'normal' times,   the aim of our classes is to show you how to train your dog using only reward based methods. We also aim to show you that training can, and should be, fun for both you and your dog, the result of which could be a dog that is pleasure to own and a joy to live with.

Whether you want to simply train your puppy to be a well-behaved member of the family or whether you want to progress your dog training towards competition work (Obedience, Showing, Agility, Gundog, Working Trials, Heelwork to Music, or whatever) we can gear the training to your individual needs.

The classes are run by Madeleine Burr, who has over 30 years experience of working with dogs.  Madeleine only endorses the use of kind, reward based training methods.

We would usually train in Ardingly village hall on Monday evenings.  Our courses are 6 weeks in duration, with each session lasting one hour and offer a range of abilities from puppy classes through to advanced.  When we are able to offer classes again, the pages showing more detail on class content and dates will be reinstated.

In the meantime, stay safe and well.
